My Approach and Areas of Practice

I believe that successful therapy begins with you feeling heard, validated, and safe. My approach centers on:

  • Honouing the Difficult Journey: I respect where you are and where you want to go.

  • A Client-Centred Focus:  You are the expert in your own life. I am here to help you reach your goals by bringing collaboration, compassion, knowledge, and experience.

  • Passionate Support: With a belief in your capacity to grow and change, I'm committed to helping you reach your goals and full potential.

  • Values: In our work, I prioritize authenticity, compassion, and connection. A holistic view guides us towards acknowledging, accepting, and growing from life's challenges.

  • Embrace the Present Moment:  Life is challenging, and I am here to help you make sense of, heal from, cope with, and grow through those challenges with courage, self-compassion, and connecting to the here and now.

  • Therapeutic Modalities: My eclectic approach draws mainly from Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and Solution-Focused approaches. Starting Therapy (what to expect):

The first session will begin with getting to know you and what has brought you into therapy. We can explore what is going on in your life right now and look at some of the elements that are getting in your way or causing you pain. I know that talking to someone you don’t know can feel overwhelming, so I encourage clients to take things slowly if they need to. My goal in the first session is to get to know you and determine how I can support you in your therapeutic journey. I also like to determine what is working or what has worked in the past.

From there we can explore further what type of therapy might fit your situation, style, preferences and goals. I am always receptive to feedback and we can change directions or strategies when needed. In my work I draw on a variety of approaches and work with you to find what approaches will work best for you and your goals.
